Gross gas consumption in the country (domestic deliveries) for the first half of 2025 amounted to 1,415 million cubic meters and shows signs of slowing. In February, consumption exceeded 300 million cubic meters, raising expectations of a recovery, but after April a noticeable decline was recorded. Typically, gas consumption is lower in spring compared to winter, but in May (180 million cubic meters) and June (148 million cubic meters) this year it returned to levels observed in some months of 2022 and 2023 – below 200 million cubic meters.
Imports
Gas imports for the first six months of the year fell by 4.2%, reaching an exceptionally low level of 1,288 million cubic meters, the lowest in the past decade.
Domestic Gas Production
Domestic gas production remains at minimal levels – averaging 1 million cubic meters per month, or a total of 6 million cubic meters for the half-year. For comparison, in 2013 production for the same period amounted to 140 million cubic meters.
Gas Storage
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, as of 1 September 2025, Bulgaria’s gas storage facility was filled to 67.55% of capacity.
