2013: A Decrease of 7% in Electricity Generation caused by a decline in demand and export

At the end of January the National Statistical Institute (NSI) published power generation and supply data for the last month of the past year 2013.

The Gross Electricity Generation has amounted
44 040 GWh in 2013, which is by 3 366 GWh or by 7.1% lower, compared to the previous year 2012.

One of the reasons for that is the recorded decrease for a second year in a row of the gross electricity consumption in the country– it was 37 859 GWh in 2013, which is by 3.3% lower than the consumption of 2012 and 4.8% lower than the one of 2011.

The second reason is the downward trend of the annual export, which despite of being at the 2010 level, is respectively  by 11.9% and by 27% lower than the reported 2012 data and the record high 2011.

As a third reason we should mark and the large quantity of electricity import in the country in 2013. The annual data for 2013 show the highest value of 3353 GWh imported electricity since 2001.
