Households in the country are increasingly embracing air conditioning as a primary solution for year-round comfort. Data from the National Statistical Institute show a clear trend: in 2025, nearly 73% of households already owned an air conditioner—a share that doubled over the past decade.
The gap between urban and rural areas remained noticeable, but it was gradually narrowing. In cities, air conditioners had long become the norm -by 2025, as many as 78% of households were using such appliances, up from 73.2% the year before. This reflects not just growth, but a rapid consolidation of air conditioning as an essential part of modern living.
An even more striking shift is visible in rural areas. While in 2020 only 22,5% of households relied on air conditioners, by 2025 their share exceeded 55%. This represents more than a twice increase in just five years -a clear sign of rapid transformation and convergence with urban standards.
These trends indicate that households are not only seeking comfort but are also actively turning to more efficient and often more environmentally friendly solutions for heating and cooling. Increasingly, electricity is becoming the main energy source households rely on to maintain comfortable living conditions throughout the year.
