From the beginning of the year to the end of September 2017 a heat power of 6969 GWh was generated in the country as a result of combined generation of electricity and heat power according to the data of the certificates of origin of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) which since 2016 have been issued on a monthly basis.

Within the period the combined generated heat power surpassed the consumed heat power except the winter month January when the consumed heat power was 1253 GWh whereas the combined heat power was 232 GWh less. Usually, if necessary, mostly in winter season, the producers turn on additional heat units aiming to supply heat power, addressed to households as well as to industry and agriculture. It should be considered that in the rest months within the period under survey, although the total consumed heat power was less than the combined generated one, there was a small number of companies that generated less heat power in a combined way.
For the first nine months of 2017 the net combined generation of electricity was 1826 GWh where the share of district heating companies (DHC) was almost 73%.

In the winter months of the year (January, February and March) electricity CHP capacities of 1357 MW worked in the country (district heating companies and autoproducers). In the summer month August these capacities were 32% less.
Within the first nine-month period of 2017 the public provider NEK purchased about 76% of the combined electricity power, the public suppliers CEZ Electro, EVN Bulgaria Elektrosnabdyavane and EnergoPro Prodajbi purchased 15%, the rest 8% were subject of free agreement. The autoproducers succeeded in agreeing on a free way 115,4 GWh, whereas the DHC about 39 GWh.
