The Energy Management Institute, with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy, is organizing a one-day conference entitled “The Role of non-governmental organizations for improving the energy policy and the legal basis in the field of energy – challenges in South East Europe”.

The event will take place on 15 March 2018 in Sofia and will be a part of the events under the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The key objective of the event is to review to what extent the voice of the non-governmental sector is heard in the process of formulating and executing the energy policy at European, regional and national level and what needs to be improved. This is considered particularly up-to-date in the context of the current EU debates in several aspects, which certainly demand more public consensus (e.g. the Energy Union governance, consumer protection, market developments and energy poverty; the role of coal, nuclear and renewables in the climate change dimension; the role of new technologies; the transparency issue and the legislative and regulatory procedures etc.). In this context particular focus will be also placed on South East Europe in general and the Western Balkans in concrete, which will be put in the overall European and EU framework – this seems to be well justified on the ground of a growing objective need for closer look at these European regions along the political and policy developments they undergo.
