Slight decline in gas consumption in the first nine months of 2025

Gross natural gas consumption in the country (inland deliveries) shows a slight slowdown compared to last year. For the first nine months of 2025, it amounted to 1,908 million cubic meters, which was 1.6% lower than the same period of the previous year.

Although gas consumption is usually higher during the remaining months of the year, the data available so far indicate that annual consumption is unlikely to exceed 3,000 million cubic meters. The last time consumption exceeded this level was in 2021.

Natural gas imports
Imports of natural gas from abroad remained below 2 000 million cubic meters during the first nine months of 2023 and 2024. During the summer months of 2025, imports returned to more typical levels seen before 2023, which contributed to a change in the trend. From the beginning of the year, imports reached 2 020 million cubic meters, marking a 1.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Natural gas production
Inland natural gas production remains at low levels – on a monthly basis it continued to be only around 1 million cubic meters, totaling 9 million cubic meters for the first 9 months of the year.

Gas storage
According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, as of 30 November 2025, the Bulgarian gas storage facility was filled to 80.87%.
